American Society of Clinical Oncology
Founded in 1964, the American Society of Clinical Oncology or ASCO, is the world's leading professional organization for physicians and oncology professionals caring for people with cancer.
In 2021, we were asked to shoot a library of images for ASCO utilizing real members. The idea was to take advantage of the association's first in-person meeting since the pandemic.
The goal was to photograph the ASCO Doctors in a number of scenarios during the weekend conference: an exam room, an office, and in consultation, both with patients and with colleagues.
The first, most obvious challenge for us was to coordinate the schedules of these very busy doctors during the two already full meeting days. Also, while the Boston Marriott Copley Place is a beautiful venue for the conference it does not exactly have a camera ready exam room, doctor's office, or area suited for medical consultations.
Thankfully ASCO was able to tap an existing relationship with Dana-Farber for a nearby exam room...
I grew up in and around Boston and started my career there so it was a great pleasure to return and reconnect with my old friend, producer, and master casting director, Kristie Raymond. Having known her mostly as a Boston area producer i asked her if she'd be willing to help me with this challenge of a project - Covid restrictions and all.
With the combined production talents of Jen Infante + Kristie plus the great and powerful prop styling of Jenny Wilson, we were able to turn this windowless, unfortunately carpeted hotel event room into a comfortable Doctor's office in one corner and a medical consulting area in the other.
as always, a huge thanks to David Hanson for running the crew and the light.
Many additional thank yous to MBooth, Shutterstock, Dana-Farber, Marriott, and, of course, ASCO.
